'Keepin it Real' gives residents hope for a safer community

Maree Beaven adds her suggestion to improving the community.

Staff family and friends from the Manurewa Neighbourhood Unit and other Units across Auckland went the extra mile on Saturday to bring a bit of fun and laughter to the Ranwick Park residents in Manurewa.

The Community turned up in droves and showed that despite the recent tragedies, a warm spirit that some might have thought had been extinguished, still existed, said Manurewa housing services manager John Coffey.

At the event neighbours' talked, rode ponies, played games and had a lot of laughs and to me this is a first step to bring the community together, said John.

Staff and other agencies were told by residents that they welcomed the event and hoped that it would be the first step to a safe community.

"I want all the bad people to go," a local child said while a mother said that she would like the local park to again be a place children can play in safety.

The Singh family who were most affected by the tragedy lent their support to the day by providing power facilities, and extended their good will to all who attended the event.

"It was a fantastic day out," says John.
