Councils and Community Organisations

Skip section sub links.

Councils and community groups and organisations make a significant contribution to social housing in New Zealand.

Increasingly, local authorities, the Government - through Housing New Zealand - community organisations and in some cases businesses, are collaborating to provide more housing for New Zealanders on low incomes or with special housing needs.

The Housing Innovation Fund was set up to foster this collaboration. It provides loans and development grants for council, community group and Māori housing projects.

This section was written for local authorities, community organisations and Māori housing providers. It includes information on the Housing Innovation Fund, as well as other programmes that support and stimulate the social housing sector. To find out more about any community-based programmes we are involved in, contact us.
