Housing Innovation Fund - Overview

Housing Innovation Fund 2009/10

The Government has confirmed $20 million for the Housing Innovation Fund (HIF) in 2009/10. Of this, $15 million will be available under a general fund, while up to $5 million will be used for innovative housing solutions for Māori. These solutions will be developed in partnership with a small number of iwi and Māori organisations. This is known as the Māori Demonstration Partnerships project. See fact sheet for more details.

To get the most out of the money available through HIF in 2009/10, the eligibility criteria and administrative process have changed.

Funding will not be available for the modernisation of existing housing. Local authorities may still be considered for funding where there are no competitive submissions from a local community housing or iwi or Māori organisation. See the fact sheets on eligibility criteria for more details.

Next Steps

1. Submission process

Applicants interested in applying to both the general Housing Innovation Fund and the Māori Demonstrations Partnerships project will need to provide Housing New Zealand with a completed submission.

Submissions must be received by Housing New Zealand Project Managers by Friday 21 August 2009.

2. Short list process

Once submissions are received by Housing New Zealand, they will be assessed nationally, and a short list will be compiled. You will be advised by Wednesday 30 September 2009 if you have been short listed, and will be given reasons for non-selection if you do not make it onto the short list.

Housing New Zealand will then work with short listed applicants to further develop the project into a funding proposal. This will involve providing more information to enable Housing New Zealand to complete due diligence, including a credit and risk assessment and financial approval.

3. Contact details

If you would like further information about the new HIF process or the Māori Demonstration Partnerships project, please contact your local Project Manager. See contact details for more information.
