The Housing Innovation Fund working on the Shore

- Gordon Duncan.
A housing project aimed at assisting people with mental health needs is coming to the North Shore.
The Bays Community Housing Trust will be purchasing six one-bedroom homes to meet the demand for affordable housing on the Shore with the support of the Housing Innovation Fund.
Gordon Duncan, Chairman of the Trust believes that the project will meet the needs of the community in a number of ways.
"We will help promote the health and well-being of people with a mental illness, increase the community's awareness around mental illness and provide a safe, affordable and sustainable solution for those in need.
"We will work with mental health service providers to integrate people with support needs into their community."
The Housing Innovation Fund aims to encourage not-for-profit, non-government community groups and organisations and Iwi / Maori to increase involvement in providing rental housing and home ownership opportunities for:
- low-income households whose specialised housing needs are not being fully met, such as people with disabilities or pensioners
- low-income households whose specific housing requirements are not being fully met by HNZC or the private market such as Iwi/Maori groups and Pacific peoples.
- low/moderate income households whose housing needs are not met in the private market but for whom no suitable alternative exists.
