Housing Minister Chris Carter today opened a new $12.3 million housing complex for the elderly in Mangere, Auckland. The 49 new homes were built by Housing New Zealand Corporation on Mascot Avenue and offer elderly tenants a modern living environment with a community atmosphere.

Leaky homes lending assistance
From 2 April 2007, Housing New Zealand can provide bridging finance to owners of leaky homes who are unable to access funds to pay for repairs. As part of enhancements to weathertight homes resolution services, the Government has approved a two-year $7.1 million lending assistance pilot programme for owners of leaky homes who can't access finance from private lending institutions.

The search for the best state house gardens in the country led by Maggie Barry, broadcaster and gardening enthusiast, is over - with the announcement of the national Housing New Zealand 2006 Garden Awards winners. Joint initiative provides descent homes on ancestral land
Housing New Zealand Corporation has built four rental houses on Maori land in Kaiaua, owned by the Pingao Trust. This is the first time in many years Housing New Zealand has built houses on Maori land in the South Auckland region. The decision was made when Housing New Zealand saw that four Kaumatua and Kuia from the Kaiaua area had an urgent need for housing.

Ground-breaking social housing development
Tomorrow (Friday, 24 November) is a historic day in the development of social housing in Christchurch.
