A:Housing New Zealand is the government's primary provider of policy advice on housing and housing-related issues. Housing New Zealand's policy unit also provides policy advice to other parts of the organisation, and other government agencies.

A: Yes. The New Zealand Housing Strategy - launched in 2005 - sets out the strategic direction for the housing sector up until 2015.

Q: How does Housing New Zealand use research for its own programmes?

A: Research and evaluation is an important part of Housing New Zealand's approach to providing programmes and initiatives that effectively respond to housing need. Internal research and evaluation activities are set out each year in the Statement of Intent, and reported on in the Annual Report.

Q: Are policy papers available to the public?

A: Depending on the sensitivity of their content, some policy papers are available to the public and are usually obtained through a written request under the Official Information Act 1982.

A: You need to talk to our Strategic Policy team. Such requests will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
