Research, policy and strategy advice play an important role in the daily running of the state housing portfolio.
Our research and policy groups provide information on housing and housing services to the Minister of Housing, other government agencies and other Housing New Zealand business groups. Our research is also of interest to the wider housing sector.
In the long-term, housing strategy in New Zealand is guided by the New Zealand Housing Strategy. The Strategy is a 10-year plan of action that involves local and central government, the private sector and community-based organisations. The Strategy intends to improve access to quality, affordable homes for all New Zealanders.
We also have a wealth of archival information on ex-state houses that is of particular interest to local councils, home-owners, researchers and architects. The archives include architectural blueprints, drainage plans, floor plans and photos of houses that were once owned by the government.
